Was it worth all the fuss?
A week after the surprise election of David Maher as Cambridge mayor, few people seem to care. The election wasn't covered in either the Boston Globe or the Herald. I spoke to about a dozen people in Central and Harvard square on Sunday and few cared or even knew about the election.
Of the few residents who followed the election, most were still frustrated by its lengthy process.
"Well, it's about time," one woman said, preferring to remain anonymous. "I hope the council can stop with the b.s. and get down to business finally."
City Councilor Craig Kelley said that Maher has a tough road ahead of him.
"We are facing a lot of budget cuts this term," Kelley said, "especially in schools and public works. It's his job to figure out how to make those cuts as painless as possible and explain to the public what the impact will be."
Maher's next step at this week's council meeting is to appoint the City Council Committees. Committees include: housing, finance, veterans, traffic, health and environment, etc.
To read more about the committees and who should be appointed, check out Robert Winter's blog about Cambridge Politics. He really knows his stuff. At last week's meeting, it was Winters who finally explained the rules to the clerk after Maher's mix up.

I liked this approach in that it made use of a lot of links to give further background and other takes on this story. Using a bunch of shorter posts also provided more timely updates to the story and I liked how the posts weren't all limited to straight news prose. The post with the meeting agenda was very informative in a very simple form and using links in that post added even more.
